The senate sent the bill to President Donald Trump for his signature. Mr. Trump is expected to sign this bill before the deadline of Sept 30 funding.
The US federal government shutdown news is measured to be the dreadful scenario for many of the US key peoples. Chuck Schumer, who is the senior US Senator from New York, also expressed his concern about the upcoming government shutdown smokes. He also pointed towards trump by saying that, Trump likes to create diversions and hence, he might like to shut down the government again due to accusation. As per the sources, the partial US government shutdown is all set to be started by the coming New Year as the opposition Democrats and Republicans decline to show any sign of cooperation to end deadlock over President’s demand for border wall funding. President has made his views clear that any bill to fund the government must sufficiently fund border security to stop the supply of illegal drugs, criminals, child smugglers, and human traffickers into the US community.
Let’s see some history about the government shutdown.
The 2019-20 government upcoming shutdowns is due to the disagreement of the 115th United States Congress and Donald Trump on an appropriate bill to fund the federal government operations for the fiscal year 2019. This is not the first time in the history of the US that the government is shutting down. The previous US federal government shutdown was in 1995-96 for 21 days and in 2013 for 16 days. But the 2018-19 government shutdown was the longest which was of 35 days.
Why the US government shutdown happens?
When a bill passes through both the chambers, it is then extended to the President of the United States to sign the bill into commandment. If there is a difference over the budget allocations before the existing cycle ends then it results in the government shutdown. Those who provide essential services are not shutdown. Essential services such as, defense, national safety, and security, border protection, air traffic control, transportation security administration etc. Many of these services are so set up that they can function during the shutdown period without paying off the bills. The major department which shuts down are commerce, education, energy, environment protection agency, food and drug administration, health and human services, housing and urban development, national parks, internal revenue services, labor, NASA etc.
Many such US agencies get affected by the government shutdown. The above mentioned are some the examples of department which got affected in the 2013 government shutdown. There were 420,000 critical employees who worked without pay. Almost 380,000 non-critical employees sent back home without pay. The situation was so critical for the people of the US that the 35 long day government shutdown made people work part-time to pay for their bills. The federal exempt employees refunded their lost wages and the Congress also passed the bill for the same. But the contract employees did not have that reimbursement provision and hence faced the shutdown badly.
The US government shutdown affects prominently on the world economic growth and hence it will be a tough situation for everyone if the government shuts down again. This government shutdown not only affects the US people or the US economy but also affect other associated economies as well. Hence, the matter is in news and people are looking out how the US government will handle this critical situation and avoid the US federal government upcoming shutdown in 2020. Let’s hope people of the US do not face the similar situation as that of 2013.
